Community Support and Immigrant Justice Resources

No one should ever fear they may be stopped or detained by a federal agent because they’re taking their children to school, going to the grocery store, showing up to work, running a business, seeking medical care or calling emergency services. It is unacceptable that people in our city are afraid to go about their daily lives.

Whether here in Arizona or another state, this federal aggression affects all of us. Everyone in our community deserves safety, dignity and the freedom to live in peace.

Our immigrant neighbors have experienced fear for years in Arizona. Thankfully the fight over SB 1070 led to the growth of a strong network of organizations and advocates working to protect immigrant families, which everyone can support if you are not already.

We each have a role to play in keeping our community safe.

Every action matters. Check on your neighbors. Post “Know Your Rights” fliers around your workplace or neighborhood. Donate to legal aid organizations and food banks. Volunteer. Stay connected with schools and faith communities. Attend an educational workshop or organizing training. Participate in non-violent protest. I have been doing these things, and am grateful for the thousands of Arizonans who continue to. If you haven’t yet, join us now.

I know who we are as Phoenicians. We are strong. We are connected. We are resilient. And above all, we take care of each other. As we have before, we will rise to meet this moment together.
